Most people think you need to live in Alaska or Norway to see great northern lights. Not true! Here in Northern Minnesota we hosts great Aurora Borealis. This photo is a wonderful example of the lights we get.
With most of my photographs I select a location long before I get the photo. This tree was selected three years prior to me getting to it and seeing aurora. Shot at the corner of highway 73 south and Wilson road. We were returning from Minneapolis at about 1:00 a.m. and the tree I kept in my mind for so long was glowing! I took the photo while my whole family was sleeping in my van along the highway.
I generally use Canon 5D cameras but this is a great example that you can use anything! I used a stock Canon Rebel 6MP camera.
